Girl Scouts of the USA (“Girl Scouts”) will be offering 18 cybersecurity badges for girls in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Girl Scout badges are earned by participants for demonstrating mastery of a particular topic and are worn as a patch on the Girl Scout uniform.

The Girl Scouts recognizes the growing amount of cybersecurity breaches, along with the deficit of cybersecurity professionals. Women are underrepresented in the cybersecurity industry, holding just about 11% of jobs worldwide. Through the cybersecurity badges, the Girl Scouts hopes to introduce cybersecurity education to millions of girls across the United States.

The requirements for the badge will range from helping younger girls protect their identities online to giving older girls the tools to address cybersecurity in different tech situations.
