Several BAS employees, families and friends joined forces with Kids Against Hunger and Philabundance to help stamp out hunger in Philadelphia, the surrounding counties and around the globe.
In the location of BAS headquarters, more than 300,000 people struggle with hunger. This equates to 1 in 5 residents who go to bed hungry almost every night. Kids Against Hunger addresses food insecurity needs locally in Montgomery, Delaware, Philadelphia counties and in places around the world. Kids Against Hunger also provides food to areas that have suffered natural disasters.
The BAS Cares Team thought the Kids Against Hunger mission fit perfectly with BAS’ community service outreach around the Thanksgiving holiday. Team members worked in an assembly line manner and measured, packed and organized bags of food. The meals provide a source of protein, needed carbohydrates and vitamins for children who are malnourished and help to sustain an adult’s mind and body. The meals also meet special restrictions for both vegan and gluten free diets. BAS employees and their family as young as 7 years came out to lend a hand to support the worthy cause. The children who participated were engaged and happy to know they were helping other kids their own age.
The BAS Cares Team along with other volunteers packed over 13,000 bags of meals to be distributed to Philabundance. The bags will be delivered to several schools in the area.
Here a few comments from BAS employees who participated,
- “It was an amazing family friendly event. My 9 year old loved that she could help other kids locally and far away. She was talking about it all weekend.”
- “The realization that we packed over 13,000 meals in 2 hours for children was both amazing and heartwarming.”
- “6 months ago when I was being interviewed for my job here I was told that BAS does volunteering for all different organizations. I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to join the committee. It was so rewarding to be helping out at an organization that helps so many in need. 2 hours is all it took and we packed 13,000 backpacks of food to be distributed to schools in Delaware, Philadelphia, and Montgomery counties. It was so nice to spend 2 hours with my co-workers and their children doing something so important. BAS truly cares and I’m so happy to be a part of such a great organization.”
BAS Cares can’t wait for a return visit to Kids Against Hunger to help even more families!
