As part of COVID-19 pandemic legislation, the government opened a special enrollment period for enrolling in health insurance through www.healthcare.gov. That special enrollment period runs until August 15, 2021. The Marketplace is open for enrollments without a qualifying event. Individuals may receive a premium tax credit (and an advance of that credit) for help with the affordability of purchasing Marketplace coverage and may enroll in coverage outside of the normal open enrollment period. After August 15, an individual must wait until the regular fall open enrollment period or experience a life change event to be eligible for coverage.
