Q.- An employee does not cover her son as a dependent on our medical plan. May she still be reimbursed for his expenses under her health flexible spending account plan?

A.- Yes, so long as the child is her tax dependent. The son does not have to be covered under the medical plan in order for his expenses to be eligible for reimbursement from her health FSA.
