Name.com, a domain registrar, announced to its users a security breach through which unauthorized hackers may have accessed user names, email addresses, encrypted passwords and encrypted credit card information.

Name.com informed users of the incident by email, but directions in that email are being criticized. The email directed recipients to click a link embedded in the message to reset their password.

Users and security experts observe that clicking an email borne link is a technique used often by phishers and might open the email up to additional security compromises. Before clicking any unsolicited link, users are advised to check the authenticity of the sender and message.
