Q- May I be reimbursed from my Health Care Flexible Spending Account for the amount I pay for psychological counseling from my church?

A- The charges incurred for counseling through a church could potentially be reimbursable from a health FSA if the counseling is for "medical care." An expense is considered to be for medical care if it is for the purpose of affecting any structure or function of the body. If the counseling is for psychiatric purposes, and not for general well-being, the expense may be reimbursable, even if it is provided by someone other than a licensed practitioner.
