The Federal Trade Commission issued a report with recommendations on improving the security of mobile devices. The report, which may be accessed by clicking here, suggests an ongoing need to patch device vulnerabilities.

Because there are so many different mobile devices by so many different manufacturers, consumers must take an active role in managing their device security. Manufacturers, of course, play the main role and must embed security support considerations into product design. This should include adopting minimum guaranteed support periods for devices and notifying customers when support is about to end. Manufacturers should also consider keeping better records about update decisions, support length, update frequency and update acceptance.

Employers that allow their systems to be accessed through employees’ mobile devices should be concerned about the privacy and security of those devices.
