The Internal Revenue Service is implementing new cybersecurity protections for 2017 intended to prevent identity theft and hacking.  These new protections include adding 16-digit verification codes to W-2 forms and ceasing the e-File PIN system, which has been compromised in the past.

The IRS will also expand its outreach campaigns to warn people about cyber safety and security.  Actions are being spearheaded through the Theft Tax Refund Fraud Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC).
