Q: How long does an individual have to elect COBRA coverage?

A: Individuals generally have 60 days to elect COBRA coverage, measured from the later of the date coverage would otherwise end or the date the COBRA election notice is provided. If coverage is elected within this timeframe and premiums are paid, coverage is applied retroactively to avoid a gap.
