Catholic Directives and Reta
The Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, sometimes referred to as ERDs, are published by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. And because of Reta’s self-funded status, the Trust can create a Catholic healthcare plan by excluding benefits that conflict with the ERDs.
The Catholic Directives are based on two objectives:
First, to reaffirm the ethical standards of behavior in healthcare that flow from the Catholic Church’s teachings about the dignity of the human person.
Second, to provide authoritative guidance on certain moral issues that face Catholic healthcare today.
