The U.S. Department of Labor encourages affirmative actions to employ covered veterans and to advance covered veterans in employment. The 2024 VETS-4212 reporting portal opened August 1, 2024 and the filing deadline is September 30, 2024.

Federal contractors and subcontractors with a contract in the amount of $150,000 or more with any department of the U.S. government must report on their affirmative action initiatives to employ veterans. Documentation of employment of veterans is communicated to the Department of Labor through a VETS-4212 filing. Information in the filing is reported in summary nature by veteran status, job category, hiring location, and new hire status.

The VETS-4212 form is divided into two key sections:

    1. Employee Data:
      • Column A: This section requires reporting the total number of protected veterans employed within each of the ten Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO-1) occupational categories. These categories range from executive-level roles to service workers.
      • Column B: This section requires identifying the total number of employees in each occupational category, providing a clear comparison between protected veterans and the overall workforce.
    2. Hiring Data:
      • Column C: This captures the total number of protected veterans hired over the past twelve months, reflecting the organization's efforts to recruit and employ veterans.
      • Column D: This column captures the total number of hires in each occupational category during the same period, allowing for an analysis of veteran hiring relative to overall hiring activity.

This filing is completed online through the Department of Labor website. The VETS-4212 filing site is now open and closes September 30, 2024. To access the filing site, click here.
