Q.- An employee requested a reimbursement from his health FSA for the cost of a therapy session. The claim was denied. Why?

A.- The claim may have been denied for more information. Therapy may have a medical purpose or a non-medical purpose (financial, marriage counseling). It is possible that your FSA vendor asked the employee to provide a letter of medical necessity. A letter of medical necessity from the doctor will identify whether the therapy was for a medical or non-medical purpose. If for a medical purpose, the amount may be eligible for reimbursement.
