Question of the Week

Q.- We are getting ready for the new health care reform 6055 reporting requirement.  Do we have to give a report to all of our covered employees?  What if we know an employee is exempt from the individual mandate to obtain health insurance?

A.  Insurers will provide the 6055 report for insured plans, but employers must provide the report for their self-funded plans.  The insurer or employer (as applicable) must report under section 6055 for all its covered individuals.  This is the case even if some or all covered individuals may be exempt from the individual shared responsibility provision.  The 6055 report is different from the 6056 report, which applies to only employers with 50 or more employees.  For more information on health care reporting, visit the BAS website at http://www.basusa.com/compliance-reporting-solved.
