Question of the Week

Q.- I just got a notice saying my 24-year-old child can no longer receive dental coverage.  I thought children had to be covered up to age 26.  What happened?

A.- Health care reform requires medical coverage to be offered to children up to age 26.  The same does not hold true for a stand-alone dental plan.  Your employer can structure your dental plan to offer dependent coverage up to an age younger than 26.  Your child may be entitled to continue dental coverage under COBRA when he or she ages out of the plan.
