President Trump issued an executive order addressing the cybersecurity of federal networks and critical infrastructure. The Order, which can be accessed here, identifies key priorities for cybersecurity. These include protecting federal networks, updating outdated systems, and directing departments and agencies to work together for cybersecurity.
The Order directs the agencies to review their security infrastructure and establish plans to protect networks that store sensitive information. Certain departments must submit a report to the President outlining strategic options for deterring adversaries and protecting Americans from cyber threats. It also requires agencies to adopt a uniform set of security standards promulgated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Reports are due to the President within 90 days, and the public should keep an eye on the advancement of cybersecurity within the government.
