Changes in Your Health Care and What You Need to Know

The President of the United States issued an executive order directing government agencies to make changes to health laws. The Order is intended to help improve price and quality transparency in healthcare. A copy of the Order may be accessed by clicking here

Notably, the Order directs the U.S. Department of Treasury to issue guidance

  • Increasing the unused amount under a health flexible spending account plan that can be carried over from one plan year to a subsequent plan year. That amount is capped at $500.00, presently.
  • Allowing high deductible health plans to cover medical care helping individuals with chronic conditions and still remain compatible with HSAs.
  • Expanding the definition of eligible medical expenses to include direct primary care arrangements and health-care sharing ministries.

The Order itself does not make legal changes, but it does direct government agencies to issue regulations on the directives. Most likely changes will be coming in 2020.
