Q.- An employee is sending her daughter to camp for the summer. Can she be reimbursed from her FSA from the cost of the camp?

A.- If the camp is a day camp, probably yes. To be eligible for reimbursement from a dependent day care FSA, the expense must be for the care, protection and well being of a qualifying person. It also must be incurred so the employee can work.

The cost of sending a child to a day camp may be an eligible expense even if the camp specializes in a particular activity, such as computers or soccer. If the program is an educational summer school or tutoring program, the expense is not eligible for reimbursement from a dependent day care FSA.

The cost of overnight camp is also not an eligible dependent day care FSA expense.
