Question of the Week

Q.- I purchased new glasses and a warranty if the glasses break. I'm sure I can be reimbursed from my Health Care Flexible Spending Account Plan for the cost of the glasses. May I also be reimbursed for the cost of the warranty?

A.- Probably not. A warranty purchased on eyeglasses is typically considered a form of "insurance" and not a medical expense eligible to be reimbursed from a health care FSA. While charges for fixing the glasses could perhaps be eligible for reimbursement from the FSA, the cost of a warranty will not be considered an eligible medical expense, unless the warranty is required to be purchased with the glasses (i.e., you have to purchase the warranty in order to purchase the glasses).
