Q.- I purchased contact lens solution and bandages at my local drug store. I know over-the-counter medicines must be prescribed to be reimbursed from my FSA. Can I get reimbursed for the bandages and contact lens solution, or do I need a prescription for these items?

A.- To be reimbursed from a health FSA, a medicine or drug must be prescribed. Other medical items, such as bandages, crutches, blood sugar test kits, contact lens solution, are not "medicine" and do not need a prescription to be reimbursed from the FSA. A valid receipt for reimbursement must contain the name (description) of the product, the date it was purchased, the amount of the purchase, and where the item was purchased.
