Written by BAS | Dec 20, 2012 9:15:22 AM

The HITECH Act under HIPAA requires the Department of Health and Human Services to post a list of breaches of unsecured protected health information affecting 500 or more individuals. In 2012, over 100 large-scale data breaches were reported to the government.

A large majority of the reported breaches involved theft of un-encrypted laptops containing protected health information. Other reasons included unauthorized access to network servers and hacking incidents. For a full list of reported breaches, click here.

BAS is aware of the trust employers place in BAS to keep sensitive information secure. All BAS laptops are encrypted and BAS implements state-of-the art technology to monitor potential hacking and unauthorized network access. BAS' attention to security issues will help large group health plans avoid incidents leading to inclusion on the HHS breach report.
