The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued a guide on mobile device security. The guide targets medical information, but can be applied to all data accessed through a mobile device.

The NIST handbook, Securing Electronic Records on Mobile Devices, sets forth best practices on keeping medical data safe and provides guidance on how to enhance cybersecurity. It sets forth a detailed structure that can be replicated by organizations. It provides a detailed architecture that can be copied or recreated. The guide outlines NIST standards and best practices. A 16 page manual on mobile device standards and controls mapping, along with a proposed risk assessment, is also provided. The guidance, which is still in draft form, is accessible here.
