Q.- When I paid for my $30.00 copay for my eye doctor visit, the doctor asked if I would donate $1.00 to a charity to end blindness. Is the full $31.00 eligible for reimbursement from my health flexible spending account plan?

A.- No. Only the $30.00 copay is an eligible FSA expense. The $1.00 is not for medical care, so it cannot be reimbursed from your FSA. If you paid the $31.00 on your FSA debit card, you must repay the plan the non-eligible $1.00 donation. You may want to consider paying the $30.00 copay with your FSA debit card, and choosing another method to make the donation or to pay for any other FSA non-eligible expense.
